About the Opportunity
Ericsson Silicon is developing ASICs that goes into Ericsson baseband and radio products. There are many activities to reduce the power consumption in our ASICs and we are constantly looking for ways to improve and automize our power flow.
One step in the power flow is to identify the max power case. This step includes specification and implementation of the power test case, which is typically a manual step in the process, and requires full knowledge of the design.
We are looking for two Master Thesis students that can help us design and implement an algorithm that can identify the max power test case from a large set of randomized test cases.
What You Will Do
• The objective of the master thesis is to analyze and compare Power Numbers for a specific HW Design in different Testcase Scenarios; Initially we define a Power baseline with a Direct Thermal testcase, and afterwards run random testcases to identify scenarios that might have higher Power Numbers. This assignment includes identifying patterns in the configurations to identify more suitable Direct Thermal testcases that was not manually identified.
• The next step is to explore different Low Power techniques, like different Clock Gating strategies, specific tools and to compare the efficiency of each technique, to finally decide which one is more suitable for our Design. This evaluation is based on the capacity to automatically detect high power test cases.
• You'll be part of an engaged team and will have full support on your activities.
The Skills You Bring
• Ongoing MSc degree in electrical engineering, computer science or engineering physics
• Capable of scripting (i.e. CSH, TCL, PYTHON).
• Familiar with Unix Environment.
• Knowledge in HDL such as Verilog/SystemVerilog.
• Experience in ASIC Verification and Design flow.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
