Background

Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) is a framework used to balance customer’s demand and firm’s supply capabilities. The purpose of the S&OP process is informed and efficient decision-making. It enables companies to be proactive, rather than reactive, to changes in the business environment by providing a forward-looking view that can foresee supply chain problems.

Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) is a systematic process focused on identifying susceptibilities, vulnerabilities, and threats throughout the supply chain and developing mitigation strategies to combat those threats.

S&OP can work well in stable environments helping to perform a wide range of supply-related operations. But it is in uncertain environments where the situation becomes complicated. Recently we have experienced situations such as Covid-19 or the War in Ukraine, or even natural disasters such as the past floods in Valencia, Spain, or Los Angeles fires. It is at this moment that the relationship between S&OP and SCRM becomes important. By introducing SCRM management within S&OP, potential disruptions can be identified and mitigated before they impact plan execution.

Goal

The goal of this project is to investigate how SCRM can be introduced within S&OP at Axis Communications. This is not an implementation project; the main objective is to study how Axis could integrate SCRM within S&OP in the future and evaluate any pros and cons.
