About this opportunity:
Quantum Computing can potentially solve certain problems that are computationally intractable on classical computers. There exist several computational expensive problems in the Telecommunication systems that could potentially benefit from quantum computing. However, near term quantum computers (NISQ) that exploit the principles of quantum mechanics (such as superposition, interference, and entanglement) have fewer noisy qubits with shorter decoherence time. To achieve computational advantage in near-term, it is worth-while exploring quantum inspired classical methods relying only a subset of quantum phenomena.
This master thesis project aims at developing quantum inspired classical method to solve combinatorial optimization problems from the telco domain. By applying the devised method on the real-world scale use case, the thesis would provide insights related to computational advantage in comparison to start-of-art classical solver.
What you will do:
The thesis work consists of several items:
Understand state of the art related to quantum inspired classical techniques for combinatorial optimization problems.
Devise a new approach in the corresponding domain.
Evaluate the execution time and solution quality obtained using the proposed approach.
Compare the proposed approach with the state of art classical and quantum inspired techniques.
Document the solution in the form of thesis report.
The skills you bring:
MSc Student in Physics/Computer Science/Mathematics or other related fields.
Proficient in Linear Algebra, Quantum Mechanics.
Understanding of Gate Model Quantum Computing, Quantum Annealing, Semiconductor Physics.
Good programing skills are required, knowledge of C++, Python.
Being familiar with programming environment in Linux.
The work is expected to start in Jan/Feb 2025. The work is proposed for 1 student for the duration of 6 months. Location is at Ericsson Research in Stockholm (Kista), Sweden.
