If you would like to learn more about UES, please visit: https://utilities.tamu.edu/ What We Want The Master Utilities Emergency Generator Technician, under general supervision, performs or oversees the maintenance and repairs of life safety and back-up power emergency generator systems. The emergency generator system consists of diesel, natural gas, and gasoline engines for driving electrical generators ranging in size from 5kW to 1.5MW What You Need To Know Compensation: $29.43/hr A cover letter and resume are strongly recommended. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: + High School Diploma, GED, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. + 7 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of emergency generator systems and associated equipment. Required Licenses and Certifications: + Valid Texas Class “C” drivers license or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment and is subject to yearly Motor Vehicle Record/driver license checks. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. + Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions in English and communicate effectively. + Requires knowledge in the use of voltage meters, fluency meters, rotation meters and compression testers. + Demonstrated leadership skills. + Will be required to complete technical training within one year of hire date, internal candidates must pass technical training before promotion. + Must be able to respond to after normal duty hours emergencies and overtime. Preferred Qualifications: + ASE Certification in three or more related specialties. + TAMU Utilities experience. + Graduation from an apprenticeship program or technical school in this field. Responsibilities + Maintenance & Repair- Perform maintenance and repair of emergency generator systems up to and including the automatic transfer switches. Recondition engines and servicing, adjusting and repairing all generator system components. This may require driving a university vehicle to utility satellite plants on and off campus and other various campus locations. + Troubleshoot- Troubleshoot emergency generator systems using engine and electronic diagnostic equipment. + Electrical Switchgear- Low voltage panel boards, motor control centers, substations, variable frequency drives, soft and across-the-line starters . Medium voltage motor control centers, substations, variable frequency drives and soft starters . Protective relay systems. + General electrical activities- Sizing and installing electrical conduit, EMT, RGS, RA, PVC, Plastibond, seal-tight, etc. Sizing and installing low voltage and medium voltage wire including termination of lower voltage and medium voltage cables and wire. Programming motor protection relays. Thermal imaging of electrical equipment. Performing locates of utilities services. Reading electrical diagrams, schematics and drawings. Research and troubleshoot equipment through reading manuals and other equipment information. Work with programmable logic controllers. + Other duties- Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions, uses proper personal protective equipment, follows safety procedures outlined in Material Safety Data Sheets, and participates in safety training. Trains Utilities Electrician Assistants in the areas of demonstrated proficiency Daily updates assigned work order status. Attend and participate in weekly team safety meetings. Planning and coordination of work packages that include extensive electrical work and may involve other crafts. Lead work teams at job sites away from direct supervision. Act as supervisor for work group as required. Complete all safety and state required training on time. This may require driving a university vehicle to various UES locations on and off campus. Other Requirements and Factors: + Works collaboratively with more experienced electricians and other crafts to ensure equipment is properly maintained and repaired. + As a Master Utilities Electrician, it is also expected that individuals in this position continue to develop in their proficiency of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the aforementioned tasks through training, planning and coordinating work, performing as a lead craftsmen on some assignments, acting as the supervisor when needed, and demonstrating knowledge, skills and abilities to less experienced individuals.
