Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for loading, unloading and moving materials within or near the plant, yard or work site.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

Receives, processes and tags incoming materialMoves inventory materials to their respective areaIssues parts to areas of work in processUses steel cutters, crowbar, clawhammer or other hand tools to open containers.Performs cycle counting and physical inventoriesMaintains equipment in clean, good working orderDocuments and enters inventory information into the computer system

Qualifications

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in forklift operationsAbility to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, steel toed boots, goggles, ear plugs, glovesProficient in computer software applications, including Word, Excel, OutlookAbility to communicate and collaborate professionally, both verbally and in writing, at all levelsAbility to organize and prioritize projects and information with accuracy, under tight timeframes, to meet organizational needsAbility to set goals independently and take initiative to accomplish them

Preferred Qualifications

Materials or warehouse experienceOne + years work experience as a material handler in an industrial settingProficient with the American Association of Railroads (AAR) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) industry and customer requirements

Work Environment

The physical environment requires the employee to work in hot and cold environments, in and out of the weather, work safely around heavy equipment and on top of and under railcars, as well as around railroad tracks.  Employees are required to use personal protective equipment such as steel toe boots, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, welding and grinding shields, etc. or as environmental conditions dictate.
