MATERIAL HANDLER
Summary You will serve as a MATERIALS HANDLER in the ORDNANCE OPERATIONS DIV (242); NMCLANT DETACHMENT MAYPORT (24) of NMCLANT DET MAYPORT FL. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities You will perform materials handling functions of receiving, issuing, storing, segregating, selecting, handling, prepping, inventorying, and shipping ordnance materials including ammunition, explosives, and various other hazardous materials. You will utilize automated information systems and maintain accurate inventory of assets. You will operate motor vehicles, including stake-body trucks, vans and flatbeds, having a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds. You will ensure cargo is secured per military standard loading drawings and procedures. You will cut wooden blocks, wedges, bracing structures, and bulkheads to be used in the blocking and bracing of ordnance in and on motor vehicles, rail cars, and vessels. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: Experience operating, with dexterity and safety, the controls of a forklift truck capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more. Experience developing proficiency in forklift operations such as starting, stopping, backing, and driving through narrow aisles in buildings, up and down ramps and in and out of trucks, vessels, and other conveyances. Experience reading and comprehending frequently used agency regulations or practices covering standard, routine blocking and bracing procedures. Experience reading and comprehending governing regulations, manuals, instructions, reports, documentation, data cards, Military Standard tags and loading procedures, and other reference materials used in the performance of this position. Experience comprehending the characteristics and compatibility of conventional ordnance including ammunition, explosives, missiles, torpedoes, bombs, projectiles, associated components, and various other hazardous items received, stowed, and issued. Experience following verbal and written instructions applicable to material handling. Experience operating industrial tools such as table saws, circular saws, drills and nail guns. Education Additional Information Term appointments may be extended up to 8 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations. Additionally, you may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment under specific conditions.
