Material Handler

Purpose

Using the appropriate powered industrial equipment, the Material Handler is responsible for all receiving and material handling at the Metallus Tryon Peak facility.  This position receives raw material from Metallus and purchased parts from various vendors.  Performs all receiving and material handling responsibilities in a manner that exhibits a safety-first mentality, ensuring all safety expectations are successfully met.

This position is responsible for, but not limited to the following:

 

The responsibilities of the Material Handler include but are not limited to the following:

Using hand-held RF scanner to receive product.  Using powered industrial equipment, unloads product from trucks.  Responsible for matching/verifying physical product against planned incoming product shown on RF scanner and performing visual inspection to ensure appropriate quantity.  Also verifies there is zero damage to material and no identification issues. Maintains inventories in the SAP inventory management system. Determines if shipments received need to be broken down and repalletized for storage.  Re-bands bundles of steel as needed. Stores product through system directed work.  Problem solves/escalates product that will not store appropriately. Uses RF hand-held scanner, picks product by part number, verifies part numbers and quantities per customer orders.  Cuts and rebands if necessary and stores in staging area. Uses scales to weigh product to verify inventory and in preparation for shipments. Loads long length product for customer shipments for on-demand customer orders. Assists with non-material receiving or finished parts shipments as needed. Performs regular cycle counts of inventory. Performs weekly safety audits and monthly dock audits. Ensures FIFO by moving product in various locations as it is received and regular inventory management. Performs yard housekeeping including proper storage of timbers and banding materials and ensuring product and location identifications are maintained. May at times operate various saws to help fulfill customer demand. Operates powered industrial equipment in the plant and in the yard. Demonstrates a safety-first mentality in all responsibilities performed.

 

 

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED with one to two years of forklift experience

 

Preferred Requirements

High School Diploma of GED with three to four years of forklift experience.

Experience with SAP
