Material Operations Principal Technical Specialist, Site Services
The Position

Responsibilities & Expectations:

The responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION

Lead and support internal teams, primarily gRED MPLS, and collaborate with other business units in supplying research materials such as media, glassware, consumables, reagents, chemicals, personal protective equipment, and other services.  

Lead and support cross-functional continuous improvement/technology projects benefiting Site Services, Research, and other business units.

Demonstrate professional conduct by leading, facilitating, and participating in huddles, meetings, office hours, or vendor shows.

Promote teamwork and cooperation by assisting department leadership in recognizing potential conflicts and offering to help team members.

Effectively influence others to achieve goals, hold others accountable, assign tasks, and ensure that the work is completed by the end of the day.

Build strong communication and collaboration channels with stakeholder groups and individuals. 


 

LAB & WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS

Spend the majority of time at work on the operations floor to monitor production activities to resolve issues and find solutions. 

Use Media Prep Request System and Inventory Management systems for scheduling, execution, and tracking of research materials. 

Carry out the overall production schedule and assign work to enable the team to work toward completing target qualifications, deliverables, and adherence to schedules.

Monitor the team’s adherence to internal and departmental procedures, and author or revise procedures as required. 

Provide positive examples through technical proficiency, quality, schedule adherence, teamwork, and productivity. 

Maintain lab/warehouse housekeeping and cleanliness standards through 5S methodology and principles to sustain a safe and productive work environment to optimize the distribution efficiency for the teams and the end-user access.

TECHNICAL, SYSTEMS & INNOVATIONS

Participate in, coordinate, facilitate, and/or manage the implementation of systems, procedures, and processes needed for R&D’s evolving science and its complexity within Research Operations and affiliates and find innovative solutions.

Serve as MPRS and IM superuser/trainer and MOLS point of contact with the internal request and inventory management system.

Perform site-related project activities that may include investigating issues, analyzing data, formulating solutions, documenting processes, and communicating results.

Understand science fundamentals and equipment (pH/conductivity, mixing, sterilization, filtration, aseptic technique, etc.)

Exhibit attention to detail and technical-oriented skills.

Serve as a Subject Matter Expert and technical resource on the operation of lab equipment and systems in Media Prep Lab Services and gSupply.

QUALITY AND SAFETY

Maximize production output including process and labor efficiency while meeting required safety and quality levels.

Ensure safety is the highest priority by adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures while actively identifying and resolving safety issues. 

Meet all compliance requirements for training and support teams to create and ensure a safer work environment by reinforcing safety practices.

Involve leadership and stakeholders when events and decisions may impact safety or production. 

Manage in-house preparations and vendor purchases, and collaborate with customers and suppliers to address quality issues.

Reinforce safety practices and provide safety training to technicians.


 

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Life Science, Engineering, or a comparable area with a minimum of 5 years of experience or 3 years with a Master’s Degree. 

Able to work autonomously from established goals and strategic direction and to cope with multiple priorities, ambiguity, and change management.

Strong background in solutions prep and glassware operations or related operational environments.

Effective presentation, communication, networking, and influencing skills.

Demonstrate strong computer skills and proficiency in similar applications such as Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.), inventory management systems/platforms (e.g. ERP, MRP, SAP), and process mapping tools (e.g. Lucidcharts, Visio). 

Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with proven abilities to work effectively, collaboratively, and efficiently in teams. 

Passion for continuous process improvement, LEAN, or other Operational Excellence training and experience is a plus.

Leadership skills to lead teams, in a performance and customer-focused operational organization.

Analytical skills to demonstrate a strong ability to troubleshoot and solve problems, solid judgment, and detail-oriented.

A self-starter who works autonomously with a strong focus on quality, attention to detail, and delivering results. 

Able to work weekends, off-hours, and overtime as required. 

Provide support and training to team members, technicians, analysts, specialists, etc.

Able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods. 

Have a clean driving record.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $91,800.00 - $170,600.00 USD Annual.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
