Materials Buyer/Planner – Indianapolis, IN
The Material Buyer/Planner is an active team member in planning and scheduling the delivery of material from suppliers. This highly tactical position is responsible to monitor the flows of buy items, guarantee availability of components to avoid material shortages and production downtime, as well as to manage inventory levels to meet our customer service and inventory targets.
What You Will Do:
Review and release planned orders daily, ensure On-Time Delivery within supply base.Maintain ERP parameters, ensuring Supplier owned and managed inventory MIN/MAXs, JIT (Just in time) and visually managed materials are planned effectively.Evaluate inventory classification to confirm data is planned effectively, and accurately for all inputs for optimized inventorySupport production with material needs in kanban pull system.Coordinate with quality team to resolve quality issues with suppliers.Maintain proactive shortage identification and management - help flag root causes & corrective actions, internally and with suppliers.Identify improvements to processes, internally and externally.Perform analysis for optimized inventory and manage ordering for visual ordering.Lead and direct others to accomplish desired organizational objectives, i.e., continuous improvement, deviations,Expedite deliveries to meet and exceed scheduled requirements.Maintain material plan at the time fence through action message review and data managementCoordinate with production planners and operations for solutions when parts cannot be delivered as promised.Continuously evaluate supplier performance and escalate to Procurement when issues occur.Resolve invoicing discrepancies with suppliers and accounting.Communicate risks to management and keep team aware of urgency to drive correct actions.Create action plan for abnormal situations with relevant team membersInterface with required functional groups to resolve challenging delivery requirements.Communicate forecasts and replenishment plans to supplier.Review open requirements, monitoring vendor performance and expediting where necessary. Ensuring that risks are mitigated.Evaluate international shipments and transit delays, escalating when needed.Demonstrate use of root cause problem solving tools and techniques (i.e., 5-whys, Pareto diagrams, etc.)Participate and take ownership of processes in teams to resolve problems, mitigate risk, and to improve processes.What You Need to Succeed:
BA/BS degree preferred.APICS (CPIM) or equivalent certification preferred.Considerable knowledge of industry related supply base.Skilled in production and supplier scheduling.Knowledgeable of supplier processes and capabilities.Able to provide direction and training to peers as needed.Computer proficient with ERP and Microsoft Office applicationsBasic mathematical skillsExperience with kanban pull system and JIT systems within manufacturing environment.Experience in operations, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes.Experience with visual management systems.Understand material specifications in terms of substitutions, quality, engineering requirements, etc.Able to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.Broad working knowledge and experience with ISO procedures.Must possess a strong customer service orientation and must provide dedicated support of internal and external customer requirements.Must be a strong written and verbal communicator, able to communicate to various audiences effectively.Must be able to demonstrate curiosity to drive continuous improvement.Team oriented, must have the ability to work cohesively with others.Must be able to work well with external suppliers.Must possess ability to work well in a manufacturing environment.Must be detail-oriented and self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision.Why Work for Us?
