Summary About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities. Responsibilities Plans, supervises, and coordinates all manual/automated property warehousing functions. Oversees warehousing operations by providing and monitoring internal control procedures to quality and quantity of work standards. Plan use of subordinate workers equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Recommend solutions to staffing problems and work operations. Examine materials or requisitioned items to identify defects and determine condition code, classification, and reparability/non-reparability. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Examiner and Identifier Supervisor (Direct Hiring Authority) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties which include supervising subordinate employees and subordinate supervisors or leaders. I have responded to subordinates regarding instructions, specifications, and tools needed to accomplish their tasks. I have planned and organized production flow and training schedules. I have supervised employees while observing work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems to meet schedules or deadlines. I have assigned work based on priority to subordinate employees. I have made final determinations on the acceptance or disposal of standard equipment. I have trained other employees to properly identify and determine condition codes of material. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Although most work is performed in an office setting, due to the nature of the work supervised, incumbent may be required to regularly stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Constant kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping and walking are required. Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and in close quarters. Frequently lift and move equipment, components, or material weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are lifted with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Incumbent may climb in, on, and under vehicles and other large, mechanized equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, camp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. May be subject to exposure of hazardous material. May require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, hard hats, gloves, masks, etc. Steel toed shoes are always required. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute education for experience. For this position, you must meet the experience requirements, no education substitution is allowed. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
