Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a Materials Handler, Position Description Number D0903000 and is part of the Joint Force Headquarters - USPFO, Fort Stewart, Georgia. This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Current members of the Georgia Army National Guard. Responsibilities As a Materials Handler, WG-6907-06, you will: Perform a full range of warehousing activities to include receiving, storing, selecting and shipping bulk and bin materials and equipment. Assist in the development of plans for storage and arrangement of stock to determine warehouse configuration, setup, movement, rearrangement and traffic flow. In larger warehouse facilities, the incumbent may participate in developing storage and space utilization plans in accordance with materials storage areas. The assignment may include insuring the safe receipt, storage, and movement of hazardous items such as ammunition, explosives, chemicals, or radioactive materials in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements. In smaller warehouses, the incumbent serves as the senior nonĀ supervisory worker of the facility, laying out storage space, establishing item locations, determining organization and arrangement of stock, identifying high and low usage items. Serve as the senior member of a warehouse project team comprised of material handlers involved in a special project such as relocating a major commodity or equipment group, or setting up a new commodity group area. Prepare items for processing, utilizing appropriate Standard Anny Management Information System (STAMIS) such as computer terminal and bar code reader to read, store, track and prepare material documentation. Perform classification inspections for material within range of authority. Ensure formal accountability when receiving, storing or issuing. Insure that special documentation remain with materials throughout the storage/issue process, i.e. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Controlled Cryptographic Item (CCI) certificate, and applicable annexes, Departments of Army Form 581, Ammunition residue certificate. Perform quality assurance inspections of materials in storage. Prepare a variety of supply documents and reports. Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials within docking area. Schedule personnel to facilitate movement in accordance with priorities, scheduling requirements and space allocations. Operate large warehouse perimeter vehicles such as cargo tractors, stake trucks, mobile cranes, and forklifts ranging in size up to 10,000 lbs. Prepare inventory and production reports, screen and identify shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies, and direct shipments to shipping or storage areas. May be required to store hazardous materials which require knowledge or specialized handling, storing, and safety procedures that can only be gained through formal course of study and on-the-job training to insure adherence to governing regulatory procedures and policies. Operate numerous hand and stationary power tools. Identify, examine, classify, accept and dispose of a wide variety of materials and property including electronic equipment, aircraft and automotive components and assemblies. Determine physical condition and serviceability of material and property. Check stock numbers and part numbers in supply catalogs to adequately identify property. Advise supervisor about inconsistent shipment information, defective material or property, and damage from shipping and recommend action to be taken. Prepare statements of facts pertaining to loss, damage or destruction of property. Route items to maintenance activity for technical inspections when defects, excessive wear, corrosion, missing pm1s or damage is discovered. Perform other related duties as required. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: E4 (SPC) - E8 (MSG). Compatible Military Assignments: 92Y, 92A, 88M. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in receiving, packaging, and preparation for shipment. Experience in compiling reports, overall warehouse planning, documentation requirements, and accepted warehousing methods, procedures and techniques. Experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent often stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Work involves bending, stooping, and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 70 lbs. The heavier items are moved with material handling equipment, or with assistance from other workers. WORKING CONDITONS: Works inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Incumbent is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized conveyor systems. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and solvents and to high noise levels in working areas, the incumbent may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hard hats, steel-toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Education There is no Education substitution for Specialized Experience for this position.
