This position will be responsible to perform materials testing, failure analysis, and report writing for components submitted to the Materials Laboratory, primarily supporting both traditional and electric axle driveline products.
Job Duties and Responsibilities• Perform material testing and failure analysis of components submitted to the Metallurgical Laboratory.
• Materials analysis, including complete sample preparation, metallographic examination, hardness testing, chemical analysis, photo documentation, non-destructive evaluation, as well as mechanical and performance testing.
• Become proficient with laboratory equipment and test methods (e.g., hardness testing, microscopes, scanning electron microscope (SEM/EDS), mechanical testing, spectrometer, FTIR, chemical testing, x-ray diffraction, etc.).
• Interpret test results, write reports, and communicate effectively.
• Learn basics of Dana products, including design, specifications, function, materials, and testing.
• Purchase laboratory supplies and services
• Maintain laboratory equipment, calibrations, and housekeeping.
• Coordinate outsourced testing as needed.
• Responsible for completing other projects and duties as assigned.
• Keep current with material and process related technology as it relates to Dana products.
Qualifications Desired:
• Associates degree in an Engineering Technology field, or equivalent technical education and experience.
• Laboratory testing experience.
• Experience in ferrous metallurgy field (e.g., steel, iron, heat treating, welding, etc.).
• Hardness testing and microscopic evaluation.
• Knowledge of mechanical testing.
• Electric motor and electric vehicle product experience a plus.
• Knowledge of non-ferrous metals, plastics, elastomers, adhesives, coatings, and lubricants a plus.
• Proficient in use of computer technology, including Microsoft Office products and other software applications.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to read design prints.
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Must be able to work occasional overtime during the week and on weekends when needed.
• Able to travel occasionally.
