Job Summary:

The position is in the Advanced Materials Technology (AMT) Development Team located on Caterpillar’s Technical Center campus in Mossville, IL. The role is focused on mechanical testing (fatigue and fracture mechanics) of materials in various temperature regimes for heavy machinery components including engines and electrified powertrains. Emphasis will be on development of proprietary tests, coordination of university and external test lab work, analysis and interpretation of results, and providing technical reviews to internal clients.

What You Will Do:

· For high/low temperature material applications, electrified machine componentry, and life-prediction model inputs, collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to select tests, scope project timing and budgets, design fixturing, and communicate technical results
· Project leadership and execution including establishing project success criteria with internal clients, managing project plans and budgets, communicating to stakeholders and suppliers, and meeting committed project deliverables
· Engineering technical support and problem-solving related to materials, supplier capability, and specification development
· Directing work and establishing collaboration with external labs/universities
· Maintain deep expertise in mechanics of materials, mechanical test apparatus, data analysis, and material properties

Education Requirement:

· B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and related fields
· M.S. in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and related fields preferred

• Prior experience in automotive or heavy equipment manufacturing
• Experience and education related to fatigue of materials, high/low temperature materials performance


Product Testing:
• Documents test process and results; prepares and analyzes defect-tracking reports
• Tests components for compliance with functional requirements and established conventions
• Develops product-testing procedures; participates in selecting testing environment and tools

The location for this position is Mossville, IL.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
