Materials Superintendent

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The Materials Superintendent is responsible for supervising and coordinating the day-to-day operations of shipping, receiving, internal material flow, and inventory control within an automotive manufacturing environment. The Materials Superintendent ensures accurate and timely fulfillment of customer orders, compliance with inventory procedures, and effective utilization of internal conveyor systems. The ideal candidate will bring warehousing expertise, strong leadership experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee and coordinate all material control systems, inbound/outbound shipments, and internal material handling activities.Supervise and develop the materials supervisor team, ensuring daily operational targets are met.Coordinate receiving, shipping, and internal conveyor operations to support production needs.Ensure accurate and timely processing of inventory transactions, including receipts and shipments.Implement and manage cycle counting programs and inventory pull systems across commodities.Oversee DMR (Discrepant Material Report) processes and supplier cumulative reconciliation.Support compliance with customs requirements and internal documentation standards.Assist in maintaining visual inventory benchmarks and monitor usage against established thresholds.Facilitate communication between Materials and Accounting departments.Coordinate activities involving off-site or third-party warehousing.Identify, record, and initiate corrective action on product or process non-conformities.Ensure non-conforming products are controlled and not processed or shipped until resolved.

Qualifications:

Minimum 6 years of experience in materials management, warehousing, or logistics (automotive preferred).Proven experience leading warehouse/materials teams and supervising direct reports.Strong understanding of internal conveyor systems and materials flow.Experience working with "inventory on wheels" or similar in-transit inventory systems.Familiarity with MRP systems (not a direct user, but working knowledge is a plus).University degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to operate effectively in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment.
