Job Summary

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for the Claxton, GA site logistics and inventory control functions related to management of raw materials, WIP and manufactured finished goods inventory.  Focus for this position is on process improvement and development for inventory cycle counting, inventory control, transaction quality management, as well as material storage and handling at the Valley site.   This position is responsible for ensuring alignment of materials management practices to Valmont Internal and External Audit requirements as well as the Valmont Core Competencies.  Additionally, this position is responsible for utilizing Lean inventory management practices to help facilitate material flow throughout the Value Stream Processes.

Essential Functions/Duties

Be a leader of the Valmont Way, including active participation and leadership of Kaizen events, Lean problem solving and Value Stream Improvement. Demonstrate commitment to Valmont Safety Mission and immediately address any safety issues in the work area.  Consult with EHS Manager when necessary to resolve issues. Provide supervision, training and direction for the cycle counting, transaction auditing and material rejection processes in order to ensure that all inventory transactions are processed appropriately and inventory is accurately counted. Work with the Inventory Specialist to identify SKU’s with recurrent inaccurate inventory records and utilize Root Cause Analysis tools to address recurrent problems. Act as an internal educator and consultant on material management and inventory control issues, providing education and training throughout the site to improve understanding of these functions. Work with the Material Handlers to optimize resources used for movement and storage of raw materials, WIP and manufactured finished goods. Assure proper receipt and storage of purchased raw materials aligns with Core Competencies and Valmont Accounting Principles. Coordinate with IT resources to align as closely as possible, real-time transactions with material movements.

Required Qualifications

Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree7+ years of relevant inventory control experience in a manufacturing environmentExperience utilizing ERP systems data for inventory analysisMid-level to Advanced competency in Excel based data analysisStrong oral and written communication skills to clearly and concisely present information to managementPassion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Preferred Qualifications

A degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or related field of studyAPICS CPIM certificationPrior experience designing and implementing inventory control, material handling, and cycle counting programs in a manufacturing environmentLean manufacturing and inventory management experienceQAD ERP Systems experienceUnderstands how to set priorities and direction with minimal input from supervisionDemonstrated success in balancing short-term and long-term requirementsProven track record of setting aggressive targets and driving resultsCommunicates openly and honestly in a clear and concise manner on an ongoing basisActs in an ethical and truthful manner, leading by example and earning the respect and trust of co-workers, customers, and other stakeholders

Working Conditions

Incumbent will frequently conduct Gemba walks to manufacturing and inventory storage areas to evaluate effectiveness of the operations; this will include visits to indoor and outdoor locations during all seasons of the year.  Normal working conditions will be in an office environment with above stated site visits.  Safety glasses with side shields, hi-visibility wear, and safety shoes with metatarsal protection will be required to enter certain areas as well as hearing protection.  Rare travel required.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms.  The incumbent will also be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle or feel.  In addition, the incumbent may occasionally be required to bend, kneel, or crouch.   The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
