About the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH): The Indiana Department of Health’s mission is to promote, protect, and improve the health and safety of all Hoosiers so that they can reach their optimal health regardless of where they live, learn, work, or play. Role Overview: The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Deputy Director is s responsible for helping lead the Indiana Department of Health’s (IDOH) efforts to improve the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, women, mothers, and families. The MCH Deputy Director is responsible for supporting planning and evaluating significant federal and state investments in population health. They lead a diverse team of public health professionals with expertise in policy development, program design, and evaluation in programs that meet the needs of families across the state. The Deputy Director provides leadership and management for state and contracted staff in the division responsible for the oversight and management of federal and state funding, community engagement, and home visiting. Responsibilities include: + Manage and provide leadership to 40-50 MCH staff with a diverse set of responsibilities including evaluators of state and federal investments, community engagement staff who represent IDOH and MCH at events, call specialists who reach out directly to families, budget planning and management staff, home visiting administrators, and more. + Coordinate development and implementation of policies that ensure MCH maintains credibility with partners, subgrantees, and vendors. + Devise new practices and initiatives that continue to improve how MCH provides services. + Support the draft and review of Indiana's Maternal and Child Health Title V Block Grant yearly report and application. + Support the development of reporting requirements for all MCH programs and analyze and evaluate the reporting to determine results. + Responsible for understanding the landscape of health care delivery for vulnerable populations and utilizing this knowledge in developing partnerships to ensure high-level of quality and equity in Maternal and Child Health programs. + Represent the agency and Division to external organizations, including but not limited to, boards, local health departments, community-based organizations, and national professional organizations. + Liaise with other Divisions within the Women, Children, and Families Health Commission. Seek ways to strategically partner with other Divisions to reduce duplication of services. Salary Statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: + Review and evaluate organizational effectiveness, goal determination, and strategic planning, etc., makes recommendations for improvement. + Assist the Director with developing and coordinating plans and policies, resources, and mission as well as goals, vision and expectations of agency or program. + Provide guidance to agencies and the public regarding applicable laws and rules. + Supervise subordinate personnel including hiring, determining workload, and authorizing assignments, training, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary action. + Assist with monitoring agency or program budget including revenues, expenditures, and budget projections. + Communicate with news and other media and respond to media questions or requests in an appropriate public relations manner. + Coordinate with other government officials on planning issues. + Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development. + Set expectation, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures. + Some essential functions of this position may be performed onsite at the agency’s worksite or other assigned worksites while some essential functions of this position may be eligible for work from home authorization in accordance with policy. Remote work authorization is not automatic and is dependent upon operational needs and agency approval. Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
