Performs complex diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the supervision of an American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology physician specializing in maternal and fetal medicine. All procedures will be performed in accordance with AIUM guidelines.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

Conduct routine and specialized ultrasound exams including:

First trimester ultrasoundsDetailed first-trimester fetal anatomy assessmentTransvaginal ultrasounds to assess maternal and fetal anatomy, as well as cervical length managementComplete Level 2 dedicated fetal anatomy surveys including detection for fetal anomaliesLevel 2 targeted exams for fetal anomalies/know genetic conditions of fetusStructural fetal echo views and screenings as required by AIUMFollow up imaging for intrauterine growth restrictionDoppler studies including umbilical artery, middle cerebral artery (MCA) and uterine artery dopplers when requiredNuchal translucency and nasal bone assessments3D and 4D imaging for diagnostic purposesPlacenta assessments for previa, vaso previa, low lying and other placental concerns such as hemangiomas and chorioangiomasBiophysical ultrasounds when neededIntraoperative imaging when requested for dilation and curtettage (D&C) procedures, as well as guidance for hysteroscopy procedures

The sonographer performs detailed scans of pregnant patients assessing fetal development and identifying potential abnormalities, while monitoring both the mother and fetus.

This position requires the sonographer to specialize in high-risk pregnancy imaging, which includes but is not limited to maternal health risks such as obesity, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), multifetal gestations, Rh Isoimmunization factors, prior poor fetal outcomes, genetic risk factors of both mother and fetus, and other known congenital malformations.

Reports preliminary findings to the maternal-fetal specialist.

Reviews and correlates patient’s exam orders with patient’s current history and prior exam history to ensure that the appropriate exam is being performed.

Verifies correct transfer of images and exam information through PACS and RIS for interpretation by the supervision physician and ensures correct charging.

Completes required ViewPoint entries and reviews data for accuracy and completeness to enable physician reading of patient exams.

Assists with the daily operations of the Advanced OB Clinic including maintenance and cleaning/sterilization of ultrasound equipment.

Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.

Works with the practice coordinator ensuring patient throughput is efficient, while incorporating add on inpatients and STAT exams into the schedule.

Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department by participating in monitoring and maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-disruption of services.

Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.

 

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Demonstrates standard knowledge of normal vs. abnormal anatomy. Recognizes and diagnoses disease processes pertinent to exams performed. Cognizant of critical findings and situations, as well as how to address them competently in conjunction with critical thinking skills and good decision making.Excellent knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to maternal-fetal imaging.Ability to adapt scanning technique to enable performance of exam requested at all levels of difficulty.Ability to work independently and efficiently displaying confidence in diagnoses and images obtained.Ability to physically assist patients on and off the table.Ability to perform exams in the clinic setting, at patient’s bedside or in the OR, when needed.Must have integrity, compassion, confidentiality, a high discretionary level, and professionalism.Self-motivation incorporated into a strong spirit of teamwork is required.


EDUCATION 

All post high school education must have been obtained from a recognized College or University. Other majors or courses of study will be considered as meeting these requirements, as long as they are closely related to the essential functions of the position.

 

Associates Degree in Allied Health is Requied

Bachelor's Degree in Allied Health is Preferred

 

We will consider direct experience in lieu of education for certified candidtes.

 

EXPERIENCE

Other types of work experience will be considered as meeting these experience requirements, as long as they are closely related to the essential functions of the position.

 

1-2 years of MFM scanning experience is preferred

 

CERTIFICATIONS ANS LICENSURES

Other certifications and/or licensures may be considered as meeting any listed requirements, as long as they are closely related to the essential functions of the position and satisfy any regulatory requirements.

American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): RDMS(OB/GYN), or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT): RT(S) CPR – Basic Life Support
