MD EIP Isolate Manager

The Department of International Health is seeking a **_MD EIP Isolate Manager_** . The Maryland Emerging Infections Program/Active Bacterial Core Surveillance (ABCs)/Healthcare-Associated Infections Interface-Community (HAIC) surveillance program conducted in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Maryland Department of Health (MDH). The Research Assistant (Isolate Manager) will support ABCs/HAIC projects through maintaining project study data, managing, collecting, and shipping project related samples (isolates). Additionally, the Research Assistant will provide in-office administrative support. At times, there may be the need to work additional hours to meet project deadlines.
Approximately 25% of this position is spent away from the office traveling to labs for isolate pick-up and shipment. Travel to hospital labs within the Baltimore area is required.
**Specific Duties and Responsibilities**
+ Under the supervision of the Maryland ABCs Manager, responsibilities will include interacting with state and local laboratories to identify, track and record cases of infectious disease, travel to select hospitals to pick-up and ship isolates, and enter and maintain data in the study Access Databases with minimal supervision.
+ Will routinely interact with personnel/study partners at Maryland Department of Health (MDH), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the University of Pittsburgh for data reporting, respond to information requests, and troubleshoot and update study databases when needed.
+ Must be able to effectively collect, record and communicate study information.
+ Interact daily with MDH Epidemiologists for identification and recording of new cases.
+ Investigate crossover of COVID positive/ABCs pathogen positive cases for identification of cases with co-infection; entering co-infection information into ABCs surveillance databases.
+ Identify and provide to MDH case isolates for shipment to CDC; oversee and track shipments of surveillance isolates and maintain isolate and isolate shipment logs.
+ Enter cases to study databases from electronic lab reporting and track isolates.
+ Organize and upload daily faxes to server.
+ Will work closely with BSPH Audit Manager and Surveillance Officers and will coordinate duties/workload as needed.
+ Ordering and maintaining supplies, preparing call minutes, and other administrative and project related duties as needed.
+ Monthly microbiology report review.
+ Periodic laboratory audits.
+ Assist with annual SO survey, Laboratory Survey, Vital statistics and death matching.
+ May cross train on chart reviews if there is time and aptitude.

+ Ability to work independently, manage priorities and problem solve.
+ Must be self-motivated, able to identify other needs of the study as well as manage your own work schedule.
+ This position requires a high level or organizational and communication skills and attention to detail.
+ Focus and detailed oriented individual with database skills.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology.
+ Knowledge of infectious disease terminology.
+ REDCap skills.
+ MS Office skills.
+ Experience communicating professionally via the phone.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
+ Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master’s Degree in a related discipline.
+ Some related experience, preferably in a medical related field, medical technology, and/or working in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
