MDI Senior Data Scientist I - McCourt School of Public Policy

The MDI Senior Data Scientist I will to support research at the McCourt School of Public Policy with the U.S. Department of Education. This position will be part of the technical team of Research Engineers and Data Analysts, expanding our technical and analytical capability supporting research with the U.S. Department of Education, and possibly additional government agencies, and to assist with related research. Reporting to the Associate Professor in the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University, duties include, but are not strictly limited to the following:

Collaborate with research team members in designing and implementing studies, analyzing data, and publishing results from research projects.

Collaborate with government agency personnel, including analysts/programmers from other research teams in monitoring and assessing data quality.

Develop and manage database structuring and data management strategies as required for efficiency and compliance.

Assume primary responsibility for writing statistical design, methods, and analysis for research assignments.

Develop machine learning models to compliment the statistical design.

Assume primary responsibility for documentation and archiving of dataset

Contribute to writing statistical methods and results sections of reports and publications.

Support publication of research products as well as related projects online on the web and/or other channels.

Requirements and Qualifications

Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, data science, econometrics or similar quantitative methods field

Minimum 5 years of experience in data analysis using statistical packages, STATA, Excel

Experience with Python, R, SQL and other programming languages – for example, Java

Experience designing and implement relational databases – for example, Postgres or a similar database management system

Experience with or willingness to learn Tableau

Experience in research protocols, quality assurance, and data privacy practices

Proven analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to communicate with non-technical staff and all members of the project team

Ability to work both independently and in the team

This position has been designated as Hybrid 3 days. Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$66,783.00 - $126,720.23

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
