The opportunity

Remote (Rome, Italy time-zone) Open to national and international candidates Duration: 12 months

The Role:

Reporting directly to the Network Coordinator, the MEAL Coordinator has a strategic monitoring and evaluation and communications function and will strive to provide an evidence base to articulate the added value of the SBP Network in humanitarian response. The MEAL Coordinator will lead common evidence gathering and/or opportunities for the network to report collectively and publicise to donors and peers on the results of deployments and partnership outcomes, which will in turn support SBP advocacy efforts. They will be responsible for coordinating after action reviews and evaluations within the M&E work area. They will support Network members to develop and strengthen their own results frameworks.

In addition the MEAL Coordinator will drive communications, visibility and awareness products on the value and impact of Standby Partnerships across tools and channels for the SBP Network, including LinkedIn and the SBP Network website. The MEAL Coordinator will work closely with partners, in particular acting as the secretariat and convenor of the MEAL Working Group, in support of the Chair who is one/two Network members.

Key responsibilities

Develop and maintain a Monitoring and Evaluation framework for the SBP Network, demonstrating how Network responds to the key priority areas as agreed in the Strategic Framework 2026-2028. This should include operational aspects of safeguarding and duty of care. Collect and develop qualitative case studies from Network members that illustrate the impact of SBP deployments at the programme and beneficiary level. Expand the development of case studies past individual deployments to consider impact on a profile area, cross cutting thematic area, regional response or at global policy level, and over longer timeframes. Support the Network Coordinator in implementing the communications strategy that will articulate the added-value and impact of the SBP Network with a focus on transforming data on SBP deployments, gaps, and lessons learned into useable information that will support communications and advocacy. Review and update the PER templates for all UN agencies ensuring the appropriate collection of cross cutting themes such as GEDSI, Climate Change and Localisation. Identify existing monitoring frameworks at the partner level and their possible common usage across the SBP, promote and where possible harmonise ways of working together and demonstration of results.

Selection criteria

University level degree in Evaluation, Information Management, Social Science, Humanitarian/ Development studies or related is required Minimum seven years of professional work experience with either the UN, Government donors and/or NGOs in monitoring and evaluation Significant work experience (cumulatively 2 years or more) in monitoring and evaluation roles based physically in humanitarian or development field operations Demonstrated strong monitoring and evaluation skills, including planning and leading evaluations of humanitarian programmes Demonstrated communications skills including producing external reports, advocacy products, social media and basic graphic design Experience developing and improving monitoring and data collection systems Experience in developing indicators and tools to effectively monitor GEDSI, Climate Change and localisation in humanitarian action.
