Measurement Engineer

Position Description

This role is the primary technical support resource for Natural Gas Measurement in Kinder Morgan. This position will collaborate with Field Operations, Corporate Measurement and industry standards groups to investigate complex measurement issues, guide the direction of industry standards and technologies, and support efforts to improve measurement. This position will complement a Technical Support group responsible for analyzing/helping resolve Lost and Unaccounted for (L&U) gas, supporting Field Technicians and troubleshooting measurement issues.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Become an active participant in industry standards groups such as AGA, API, GPA, etc.Develop and maintain strong connections with vendors and peers within Natural Gas Measurement to help ensure strong measurement accuracy for KM and for the industryHelp support and ensure proper O&M (Operations and Maintenance) and interdepartmental procedures are developed and being followedProvide internal and external customers and stakeholders subject matter expertise in MeasurementSupport and/or oversee the investigation and make recommendations toward the resolution of customer discrepancy claimsLead Measurement/meter facility audits as necessaryInvestigate measurement quality through knowledge and experience, data analysis and solid communications with field personnel. Identify and prioritize possible issues.Develop scope and business justifications for identified physical improvements to measurementLead investigation team for the development, prioritization and implementation of actions to solve pipeline measurement imbalancesProactively look for new ways to analyze data, resolve problems and improve processesDevelop and provide measurement related field training as necessary*Job title/level and pay is commensurate with experience and skills.

Position Requirements

Education:

A Bachelor of Science Engineering degree from an accredited school of engineering. Prefer 5+ years of natural gas measurement experience.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

Direct experience in leading projects and project teamsExperience in design and operating of pipelines and pipeline facilities preferredParticipation in industry working group and committees (AGA/PRCI/API)

Competencies, Skills and Abilities:

Strong analytical problem solving skills and attention to detail.A thorough working knowledge of natural gas measurement standards such as AGA, API, GPA, etc.Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel.Familiarity and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and diagrams, including flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID’s).Successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks often under strict deadlines.Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.Ability to organize and prioritize daily work and maintain strict confidentiality.Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to work schedules required.Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.Proven communication, oral and written, with ability to communicate with a variety of individuals and personalities at all levels internally and outside the organization.Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.Ability to work in varying weather conditions as needed during field site visits.Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sitesThe successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Working Conditions:

25-50% overnight travel across a broad geographic region may be required.Carry a company-provided cell phone, be available to respond during working hours, and occasionally during non-working hours.
