This job description is intended to broadly represent an entry-level engineer, recent college graduate role at Corning. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, development, and maintenance of measurement systems, working with state-of-the-art equipment such as cameras, lenses, optical sensors, illumination, drones, and robots. You will also utilize novel computer vision and machine learning methods to provide actionable insights and further augment the power of our digital transformation. These are key to improving the efficiency, safety, and quality of our manufacturing processes.
Engineers in the Manufacturing Technology & Engineering division work in a vibrant and dynamic environment. Our engineers travel extensively throughout North America, primarily East Coast of the US, to various manufacturing facilities. Corning NY is home base. Some projects will be completed locally. Frequently, our engineers work within manufacturing facilities with diverse functions such as process engineering, equipment design and installation, measurements systems, and software applications for manufacturing.
Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Imaging Science, Physics, or Optics Solid understanding of fundamental engineering principles Able to work in any stage of innovation and handle risk of failure Aim to learn new technologies and processes quickly Understands how to balance pursuit of fundamental understanding with driving forward business needs Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to multiple locations to support business needs Desired Experience/ interest with Imaging, Optics, Lasers, Sensors etc. Hands on experience with robotics: building benchtop systems and automation Experience/ interest with data acquisition hardware and software. [PLC, LabVIEW, C#] Hands-on experience with computer vision and technologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) Hands on experience with any programming language Software of note: Python, OpenCV, C#, MATLAB, Halcon Responsibilities Design and Implement measurement systems for inspection, guidance, and identification in the manufacturing process of glass and ceramics Build working prototypes on an optical table, choosing from different imaging and illumination platforms, that can serve measurement and vision needs across several Corning businesses Utilize current machine vision technologies and leverage the vibrant industrial ecosystem Develop algorithms and build software for data processing and machine learning

The range for this position is $76,925.00 - $105,772.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
