SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Emergency Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on emergency vehicles. An employee in this position provides services and repairs for a small fleet of diesel and gasoline ambulances and other vehicles. This position is also responsible for keeping accurate maintenance and shop records. The mechanic operates under the general supervision and also reports directly to the EMS Manager

ATTRIBUTES
High School or GED Required
At least 24 months experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) as a mechanic working on:
-Both gasoline and diesel engines
-Vehicle electrical systems
-Brakes and suspension systems
-Fire mount and balance
Current NYS Class C Driver's license
AHA BLS
EVT Ambulance Technician 1 within 24 months of hire, EVT Ambu lance Technician 3 within 36 months
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurate diagnosis and effective repair and or replacement of components necessary for the proper functioning of vehicles or equipment
Performs maintenance in accordance with manufacturer or ASE standards.
Repairs problems identified during preventive maintenance inspections
Assesses structural damage and provide repairs including component replacement
Road tests vehicles for quality of repairs completed
Evaluates and performs state and county inspections of all road vehicles for compliance, possible failures or other potential problems
Communicates delays on repairs that will not meet the promised time frame given for the repair
Performs the required preventative maintenance according to recommendations.
Uses various diagnostic equipment, tools, and other shop equipment.
Participates in all required training sessions, including, but not limited to any mandatory Company training.

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.
