Job Title:        Mechanic Helper

Department:  Maintenance

Reports To:    Mechanics, Maintenance Superintendents

 

SUMMARY

Assists Diesel Mechanic in overhauling and maintaining diesel motors used to operate trucks, generators, and other equipment by performing the following duties.           

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Disassembles motor and cleans parts

Obtains parts from stock and hands tools to mechanic

Assists Mechanic in motor reassembly

Cleans tools and working area

Performs other routine duties

Does work independently without being told.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Drives equipment to and from shop

Identifies tools needed for the job

Performs small repairs (hoses, lights, etc.)

Tests equipment after repairs

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent, or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.  Draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

 

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and/or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
