About the job: Kent is looking for a Mechanical Commissioning LOTO Technician to be based in Beaumont, TX. A Mechanical Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Technician is responsible for ensuring that machinery and equipment are properly shut down and prevented from restarting unexpectedly during Commissioning or Testing. This role is critical for workplace safety, especially in industrial and manufacturing settings. Here are the key job requirements and responsibilities:Skills and Responsibilities: Work in a team environment to provide the best lockout services in the industry. Identify machines and equipment subject to LOTO procedures. Identifying all energy sources for the equipment. Understand, and apply LOTO procedures to isolate and secure machines, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety regulations.Strong understanding of mechanical P&ID’s, systems drawings, and components, including process safety, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems, to assess and secure energy sources.Ability to build LOTO Isolations and identity potential energy sources and hazards, perform risk assessments, and plan safe LOTO processes tailored to different types of equipment.Maintain accurate records of LOTO activities, such as tagging and lockout times, authorized personnel, and equipment status.Clear communication with Commissioning teams, operators, and supervisors to coordinate LOTO procedures and ensure all involved understand the hazards and precautions. Ability to troubleshoot LOTO devices, understand machine behaviour, and respond quickly to unexpected issues during lockout procedures.Precision and careful attention to all steps in LOTO procedures to prevent accidental startup or energy releaseAlways demonstrate personal HSSE leadership and excellent HSE behaviors and ensure that safety expectations are communicated and maintained. Attend all mandatory training as specified in HSE and Permit to Work training schedule. Ensure all team members are fully aware and understand all the projects’ safe working practices and adhere to them to maintain a SAFE working environment. Coordinate installation, removal, and modification of LOTO’s as required to support system turnover and permit to work to ensure the safety of all parties. Solve problems using a combination of standard procedures, modification of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments and support junior technicians
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: Minimum 5+ years of LOTO Commissioning or Operations experience. OSHA 1910.147 for Lockout/Tagout, are often required, along with training in safety protocols and industrial machinery. Knowledge of best practice and procedures in line with large-scale industrial projects. Fully trained in all Safety related subjects outlined by Company such as Environment Concerns, Safe Operations, Emergency Response, JHA, PTW, MOC. Fully trained in Incident & Injury Free and fully understand the expectations, duties, and responsibilities Complete Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning activities as per project procedures. Full understanding of Permit to Work systems, able to sign for work permits, lead the Toolbox Talk and ensure the JHA is fully understood by technicians and trainees. The role often involves working with different types of machinery and evolving safety standards, so willingness to adapt and continue learning is essential.Fully trained in the use of hand tools, operation of test equipment. Fully trained in reading of P&ID and mechanical drawings.
Communication:Clear verbal and written communication skills to ensure effective coordination with team members. Behavior/ Core Competencies:Proficient computer training such as Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe and Visio. Analytical thinking and skills required. Mechanical LOTO Technicians often work in physically demanding environments, requiring strength, endurance, and the ability to work in various conditions and positions.Act as mentor and lead/supervise technicians and trainees.
