Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract to assist with new product introductions. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a challenging yet rewarding multimillion-dollar project, where you will introduce and bring a new engineered product to life.

ResponsibilitiesReview high-level user/project requirements and translate them into mechanical product requirements.Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies, including fabricated metal components, plastic injection product enclosures, and electro-mechanical interfaces.Collaborate with purchasing to manage BOM COGS targets and provide input into the make/buy process.Support engineering prototype builds and resolve assembly/testing issues.Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions related to product quality issues.Initiate and manage engineering change notices, providing engineering justification.Conduct feasibility assessments for OTS component selection and contribute to the qualification plan.Assist in developing mechanical design verification test protocols and reports, including failure mode analysis.Evaluate suppliers and product conformance through tolerance analysis, inspections, and part traceability.Support product safety certification processes and human factors engineering.Oversee dFMEA and contribute to pFMEA and production controls to ensure product quality.Develop and monitor mechanical timelines against project milestones, reporting issues to engineering and project management.Essential Skills15 - 20 years of mechanical design experience, particularly with new product introductions or sustaining products, preferably in medical devices or consumer products with complex electro-mechanical architecture.15 - 20 years of Solidworks experience, including plastic, sheet metal, and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.Experience in component and assembly design, 3D designs, 2D drawings, and BOM lifecycle management.Ability to work to product requirements, monitor program milestones, and report project issues.Experience in plastic enclosure design.Capability to manage vendor deliverables for a medical cart.Strong communication skills.Proficiency in GD&T.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience specifying design specifications for off-the-shelf components/assemblies.Work Environment

The position is based in Oakville, with a requirement to work in the office 2-3 days a week for design reviews and collaboration with another designer. The work involves 50% design work using Solidworks, 25% meetings and project reporting, and 25% prototyping/testing. This role is part of a dynamic team dedicated to delivering innovative solutions.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $80.00/hr.
