Job Description
Our co-ops don’t wash cars or do coffee runs. They also don’t work on side projects off to the side. Our co-ops are treated like full team members and are given the opportunity to learn what being a mechanical designer is like in the real world. You’ll also have a lot of fun and make a lot of friends. For the duration of your work term, you will be a member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for the design and implementation of the next generation of Motorola’s market-leading high-performance video solutions products.
Responsibilities include:
Use of 3-D modeling software to design parts, assemblies and mechanisms using a variety of materials and fabrication technologiesEstimation of work and cost required to complete proposed tasks and creating and maintaining progress reportsCreation of detailed production-quality fabrication drawings, design documentation, and assembly drawings for new and existing partsSpecification and development of design, prototyping, and test tools or fixturesMechanical Testing of products and report creationSupport related activities such as creating and releasing changes, maintaining Engineering workshop etc.Qualifications:
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise documentationSelf-motivated with the ability to learn quickly and independently and work within a teamA demonstrated pragmatic approach to problem solving3-D modelling experience – preferably with SolidWorksAbility to design for manufactureAbility to implement designs that are ergonomic and aesthetically pleasingPreference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:
Knowledge of material properties, manufacturing techniques, adhesives, coatings and fastenersFamiliarity with optics or photographic techniquesHands on fabrication experience using various manufacturing processes (Drilling, Milling, Lathe etc..)The base salary range for this position in British Columbia is 44,000 - 55,000 CAD depending on experience.
