ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role is a permanent full-time position.
Reporting to the Superintendent Governance and Technical Stewardship, you will be responsible for the design and drafting of mechanical systems and components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of design deliverables, adhering to project schedules, and maintaining the high safety and quality standards of the company.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
• Deliver “We all guarantee everyone goes home safe and well” through creating a culture of care and accountability as an enabler to continuously learn and improve; • Perform design calculations (Finite element analysis), create detailed mechanical designs and 2D/3D drawings for equipment and systems related to the aluminium smelting process; • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure designs meet operational needs; • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for design projects, including specifications, manuals, and assembly instructions; • Review existing designs and provide recommendations for improvements. Revise drawings based on feedback and project changes; • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies; • Utilize CAD software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) effectively to produce high-quality drawings and models; • Provide guidance and support to junior drafters and other team members, promoting best practices in design and drafting; • Ensure all relevant change control documentation are updated to “as-built” status.
ABOUT YOU:
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
• Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mechanical drafting, preferably in the Aluminium smelting or heavy industrial sector; • Proficient in CAD software, experience with 3D modelling and simulation tools is a plus; • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and fabrication processes relevant to aluminium smelting; • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment; • Knowledge of industry codes and standards such as SANS, ASME, API, ANSI, and ISO; • Fluent in Portuguese and English.
Qualifications for this role are:
• Relevant Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related field.
