Mechanical Designer Intern - The Toro Company

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

Conceptualize and create designs to satisfy the product objectives related to the specific areas assigned, utilizing 3D CAD software to do project-related work.

Assure the design specifications of the assigned area to meet the overall approved specifications, including cost, timing and performance objectives of the product.

Prepare sketches, layouts, drawings, and analysis for assigned tasks.

Research and propose materials and processes to be used in designs.

Ensure designs meet the durability, performance, manufacturability, and quality criteria of the company plus Toro and industry safety standards.

Utilize “Set Based Design” philosophies and routinely conduct design reviews with engineering team

Analyzes proposed engineering designs using calculations, testing, computer methods or other techniques as needed.

Conduct feasibility studies to reveal idea practicality and potential design or program issues.

Procure parts and coordinate prototype build efforts

Organize the work of the drafters, model makers, technicians, and outside vendors.

Assist in continuous improvement activities such as (DCI), (PQI), and Engineering Change Management

Develop and execute releases, parts lists, assembly drawings, and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

Work with assembly plants and vendors to maintain production.

Perform other duties as assigned.

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:

Currently enrolled in an Mechanical / Automotive Engineering degree program and should be at least a junior (or entering junior year) with at least a 3.0 GPA

Ability to communicate effectively in group meetings and during presentations

Have a love of designing, prototyping, and operating outdoor lawn equipment

Interest in gaining experience with design software such as CAD, ProE, Windchill, CREO mechanism, and drafting

Competency in 3D CAD Software such as CREO, PROE, SolidWorks, etc.

Ability to transfer skills and knowledge from past experience and related technologies to new situations.

Technical ability in math and mechanics preferable.

Demonstrated ability to independently accomplish duties and responsibilities as listed.

Collaborative team player with ability to communicate and work effectively across levels and departments, where flexibility, adaptability, and resiliency are important

Ability to work in a dynamic environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality

Proven relationship building skills, ability to gain and build support for design initiatives

Competency with computer applications like Microsoft Office, OneNote, PowerPoint, etc.
