Position Summary:
The Mechanical Drafter / Designer is a part of the Product and Applications Development organization and has the primary accountability to generate ideas, concepts, models, and drawings in SOLIDWORKS. They will be an individual contributor to support new product designs. They will work closely with the Product Development and Quality team to understand product requirements, the Procurement team to understand cost and lead times, and the Operations team to understand manufacturing capabilities. They will also execute mechanical tests in our mechanical testing labs, including setting up and performing tests, documenting results and observations, and keeping the lab space organized and operational.

Responsibilities include:
Gain and maintain a fundamental understanding of mechanical principles to design innovative pressure containment vessels effectively. Have detailed knowledge of flow direction in membrane modules and direction of pressure difference to properly design seals.
Have a broad understanding of various machining and fabrication processes to know their advantages and limitations. Understand how to design products to take advantage of such processes, or how to effectively use the processes to manufacture our product.
Create and edit solid models for parts and assemblies. Make detailed engineering drawings to bring product designs from concept to a fully documented state.
Document, update, and organize engineering information, templates, and databases as needed to allow easy access and retrieval of information.
Design casting molds to interface with existing manufacturing infrastructure. Work with the plant engineering department to make implementation as seamless as possible.
Use SOLIDWORKS PDM to maintain document control.
Organize mechanical test lab and perform tests to validate the mechanical integrity of designs. Document results in established report formats.
Write test plans to allocate manufacturing resources for producing working prototypes.
Investigate, trouble-shoot, and solve a wide variety of mechanical design issues.
Initiate, manage, and close out electronic Management Of Change orders.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Be able to work with various engineering and manufacturing personnel to understand their requirements and provide appropriate solutions.
Qualifications:
We are seeking results-oriented candidates with the following qualifications:
Associate Degree in Engineering or technical field with 3+ years of experience in product design
Proficient in SOLIDWORKS
Have a working knowledge of SOLIDWORKS PDM
A SOLIDWORKS CSW certification and Product Design for Six Sigma experience a big plus
Ability to work in a team environment with different areas of expertise
Communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with and influence people with positivity from all cultures and at all organizational levels
Ability to thrive in an environment of change
Ability to travel domestically
