Hatch is currently seeking a recent graduate for a Mechanical Engineer-In-Training position in our Trail, BC Office. Trail is located 10 minutes from Rossland and the famous Red Mountain Resort. Rossland and the surrounding Columbia Valley region is a mecca for mountain biking / lake activities in the summer and skiing / snowboarding in the winter. Working closely with our senior engineers and designers, your primary role will be to act as a technical resource on challenging projects. You will apply analytical, conceptual, research, and planning skills to design systems for installation, including materials handling, industrial process and ventilation systems, and pumping and piping systems. The position will allow the candidate to directly apply and develop his or her knowledge in mechanical design, stress analysis, thermal analysis and hydraulic system design. The candidate will be exposed to modern design tools, including 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting, laser scans, finite element analysis and complex calculation software. In addition to theoretical design and analytical work, the candidate may gain valuable on-site practical experience at our client's facilities. As time progresses, project duties and responsibilities will increase, facilitating registration of the candidate as a professional engineer. Newly hired EITs will be assigned to work closely with experienced engineers, and there will be opportunities for travel and work assignments in Canadian and international site locations. There will be also be opportunities to specialize in a particular technical area and work with multidisciplinary engineering team locally and with other Hatch offices. The position will engage newly hired EITs in formal mentorship and active career management, allowing career growth to take place in a structured setting. Typical responsibilities will include: + Provide Mechanical Engineering design support to multidiscipline teams on maintenance, expansion and new construction projects + Participate in site evaluations and data collection + Basic design/specification and detailed design of mechanical systems and materials, technical selection, calculations, sizing and evaluation of piping, stationary and rotating equipment + Preparing RFQs, including specifications, scopes of work and data sheets + Evaluate Vendor quotations for technical adequacy, budgetary constraints and client requirements + Vendor document review and approval + Participate in preparing construction work packages + Participate in the development of study reports and cost estimating. + Provide on-site construction support Minimum Requirements: + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering + Excellent analytical, writing and oral communication skills + Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills + Ability to interact successfully with all levels of staff, clients and vendors + Eagerness to continuously learn and develop new skills Qualifications: Candidates who have excelled in their studies at the undergraduate or graduate level in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering are sought. In addition to demonstrating strong academic performance, candidates require good communication skills, an aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams, and a commitment to team work in achieving engineering excellence while delivering on budget and schedule.
