Mechanical Engineer

The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. They use cutting-edge technologies and operate at speeds that push other pieces of the grid to go faster.

The transformers we make are at the heart of the operation of our protective relays, or are the first components inside the unit to see energy from the power grid.  We are redesigning these transformers like no one has before to make them better than ever before.

Join our dynamic, rapidly growing Magnetics Engineering department inside the Vertical Integration division where you will learn about transformers, inductors, and the materials and processes to produce them!  You can work for a large and growing, successful, employee-owned company in a small team environment where you will enjoy a wide variety of responsibilities.  We are part Research and Development and part Manufacturing, involved in designing and qualifying components for use in SEL products, and directly supporting the production team making these components.

Primary areas of focus are:

Design or redesign transformers and other components with a focus on manufacturability and automated production.

Assist with component qualification plans and testing, including mechanical and environmental tests.

Design production tooling, fixturing and assist with production process development.
