JOB OVERVIEW 
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Engineer. 

 

Reporting to the Section Manager, Production, Performance & Testing this position is responsible for in providing engineering advice and guidance to clients in hydro and thermal generating facilities on a variety of technical matters within maintenance, operations, performance, design and commissioning.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

•    Lead field test programs, projects and develop work plans, determine resource requirements and balance workload with available resources, coordinate work efforts with other involved groups, adapt project/study activities to address changing priorities, anticipate and resolve problems, and accomplish planned work results to the satisfaction of the client and within established budgetary and scheduling constraints.
•    Provide engineering design, assessment, technical advice, guidance, consultation and other services to clients to deal with problems and projects of high complexity.
•    Develop proposals, technical specifications and produce recommendations for customer review. Assist customer with implementation as requested or appropriate.
•    Establish and utilize contacts with suppliers and manufacturers and in other industries/ utilities as a resource for problem-solving.
•    Evaluate and secure the services and products of external firms, in accordance with company policies and divisional programs.
•    Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies associated with station work activities required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 
•   4 year University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with coursework in fluid mechanics, turbomachinery or experimental testing.
•   Advanced abilities with Python, visual basics and Excel.
•   Demonstrate technical knowledge of hydro-electric and thermal generating station operations and maintenance procedures, processes, techniques, problems and problem resolutions.
•   Strong understanding of fluid mechanics and hydroelectric field testing;
•   Experience in the theory of turbomachinery and field performance and testing.
•   Experience in hydroelectric unit performance investigations, tests, analyses, etc. in presentations, memos, and reports.
•   Experience in conducting simulations and field work as necessary to support hydroelectric performance investigations, advise clients, etc.
•   Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
