Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will develop a variety of technical solutions to replace outdated Canadian Army assets. Your efforts will ensure our troops are optimally equipped and ready for their operations.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare and/or review project deliverables such as plans, reports, drawings, analyses, and others, within Mechanical and Systems Engineering and provide a quality service for internal and external customers.Provide ongoing support of existing and new designs, including product conceptual designs, 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, technical instructions, and engineering specifications.Carry out design checks, support the creation of redlines, and support sign-off through production.Support various design review meetings (SRR, ERR, PDR, CDR, change boards, etc.).Collaborate across Engineering Functions, including Electrical and Manufacturing.Serve as the liaison between project management and engineering teams, ensuring seamless integration.Monitor systems, processes, and practices within technical areas of knowledge to identify opportunities for improvement in light of changing needs, feedback, and/or current best practice thinking.Drive new ideas to cut costs, enhance quality, boost productivity, and ensure timely delivery.Provide technical guidance and oversee a small number of engineers when needs arise.Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.Essential SkillsMinimum 8+ years of Mechanical design experience, with a strong focus on designing structural parts and assemblies (should involve sheet metal, weldments, fasteners, etc.).Proven experience integrating COTS (commercial off-the-shelf: commercially available and already designed products) into designs.Experienced with part selections and coordinating with suppliers directly and through supply chain.Experienced with design-to-cost & design for manufacturing and assembly, mechanical.Strong verbal and written communication skills (English).Additional Skills & QualificationsA Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree from an accredited university or equivalent knowledge gained through other forms of education or training.Organized and thorough individual and able to develop complex design and analysis.Work Environment

Hybrid work: 1 day/week in the office (downtown Ottawa). Working under a flexible schedule. Laptop provided.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $65.00/hr.
