We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work in our Defense R&D and Manufacturing group in Bloomfield, Connecticut. This role centers on the design of fiber laser amplifiers and its opto-mechanical subcomponents. It includes significant levels of communication with internal departments such as manufacturing, electrical engineering, quality, supply chain, outside mechanical design and analysis contractors, and fabrication vendors.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Mechanical design and documentation of fiber lasers and components using SolidWorks Creation of detailed engineering drawings for fabrication and inspection Requesting quotes, placing orders, and interacting with vendors for mechanical parts Communicate progress to management and internal stake holders verbally, electronically and through meetings Structured use of Oracle PLM program for part number ECO, and BOM creations Promote investigation and application of new technologies and industry trends to product design Lead DFM efforts to decrease errors and assembly time of products Participate in new product development programs Support of current programs through hands on troubleshooting, ECO’s, and prototyping Support quality department with incoming inspections and supporting documentationEducation & Experience
B.S. in an engineering degree program (Mechanical preferred) Previous experience in product design with a 3D CAD program, preferably SolidWorks Hands on experience in assembly of technical devices Detailed drawing creation experience Solid understanding of machining, sheet metal, and various metal fabrication methods Commitment to details, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout job’s role Must be a US Citizenship or US Permanent ResidencySkills
Experience with lasers or laser design Experience in creating / using standard practices in SolidWorks Experience with FEA and CFD simulation Knowledge of machining, fabrication, and 3D printing practices Strong communication and collaboration skills - comfortable working across a variety of functions and levelsWorking Conditions
