**Job Description** **Position Title:** Mechanical Engineer I, II, III, or Senior - Chemical & Fertilizer Complex **OPEN UNTIL FILLED** **Department/Location** : Maintenance/Beulah, ND **Company** : Dakota Gasification Company **Position Purpose:** This position supports the Engineering division by developing mechanical projects scope of work, cost estimates, mechanical designs, schedules, and detailed design packages for moderately complex projects, plant modifications and additions. This position also provides technical assistance on assigned projects and plant operating and maintenance problems. **Essential Functions:** + Develop scope of work, preliminary and final mechanical engineering research, design, calculations, engineering packages, cost estimates, specifications, engineering and construction schedules, and project justifications. + Follow plant, industrial, and regulatory standards to perform detailed engineering design packages which include sketches, drawings, bill of materials, scope of work, estimates and specifications. + Coordinate minor phases of engineering development, design, and construction with other departments and construction contractors. + Coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction progress, and monitors costs and job progress to ensure the work is accomplished within budget and on schedule. + Conduct quality control inspections, verify design compliance, assist with checkout and commissioning, and operational performance of assigned projects. + Provide technical assistance and input in the development of mechanical procedures and standards. + Prepare reports showing the status of all assigned projects. + Attend all scheduled safety, training, and department meetings as required. + Provide limited technical and troubleshooting advice in resolving equipment problems. + Maintain work area in a neat, orderly, and efficient manner, and exhibits professionalism in dealing with outside people and suppliers. **Qualifications:** **Mechanical Engineer I:** + Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited mechanical engineering program. **Mechanical Engineer II:** + Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited mechanical engineering program and three years of related engineering experience. + Knowledgeable with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Petroleum Institute (API) codes. + Knowledgeable of Computer Aided Design (CAD), word processing, database, and spreadsheets. **Mechanical Engineer III:** + Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited mechanical engineering program and six years related engineering experience. + Knowledgeable with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Petroleum Institute (API) codes. + Knowledgeable of Computer Aided Design (CAD), word processing, database, and spreadsheets. **Senior Mechanical Engineer:** + Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited mechanical engineering program and ten years related engineering experience. + Knowledgeable with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Petroleum Institute (API) codes. + Knowledgeable of Computer Aided Design (CAD), word processing, database, and spreadsheets. **Other Requirements:** + Must possess an understanding of engineering, knowledge of current engineering technology, and technical problem-solving skills. + Good verbal and written communication skills. + A valid driver’s license. + Resume required. + The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this job. Prompt and regular attendance is a requirement for this position. **Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:** This position requires the ability to work predominantly in an office setting with occasional interaction with the field; occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, constant use of a computer/keyboard and other office equipment, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds, and use of tools. This position requires good finger dexterity, hand coordination, the ability to perform close work, good hearing, color vision, and the ability to speak. The incumbent must have the ability to analyze data, conduct research, implement recommendations, develop plans and goals, present information to others, and work under pressure of time constraints. The incumbent may be exposed to dirt, dust, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, confined areas and working at heights up to 150 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Occasional travel is required to meet with vendors and for training.
