Mechanical Engineer I/II

The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs. Mechanical engineer responsible to provide engineering support to ensure department equipment (cranes, doors, platforms, elevators) is properly maintained and able to support KSC operations. Engineer will develop work authorization documents (WADs) for department equipment to include maintenance job plans, operational job plans, and non-conformance/repair job plans. Provides troubleshooting support for equipment as required and performs task team leader responsibilities when necessary. Although this is considered a 1st shift position, 2nd and 3rd shift work as well as overtime will be required. **Responsibilities** Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: • Responsible for developing plans, writing work authorization documents, leading task teams. • Entry level will work under the guidance and direction of an experienced engineer. • Perform mechanical engineering tasks in support of a variety of spacecraft to include the Orion Crew Module (CM), Service Module (SM), Interim Cryogenic Propulsion System (ICPS), future upper stages for the SLS launch system, and Launch Services Program (LSP) payloads. • Candidate will support preparations for assembly, test, processing, and launch of NASA's Launch Services Program spacecraft, SLS processing, and Orion Crew Module. **Qualifications - External** **BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering disciplines from an ABET accredited school** **This position will be considered at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.** • Strong mechanical background is highly desirable due to the mechanical aspects of the flight support equipment, and ground support equipment. • Experience with overhead cranes and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems are highly desirable. • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment with clear, concise, and accurate verbal and written communication skills. • Excellent customer interface skills required. • Analytical and problem-solving skills are a must. • Experience with Microsoft Office products, Internet browsers, Outlook. • Capable of reading/understanding technical manuals, drawings, and schematics. • Ability to plan, manage and prioritize multiple projects. • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary. **Minimum Qualifications Requirement for consideration as** : To qualify for Engineer Entry **Entry** : Qualifications: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution. To qualify for Engineer **Associate** : Qualifications: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution; at least four years of experience. **Essential Functions** **Physical Requirements** + Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting. + Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary. + Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment. + Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. + Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures. + Must be able to work in tight confined space areas. + Must be able to work at heights. **Work Environment** + All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards. + Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex. + Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site. + Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. **Equipment and Machines** + Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers. + Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance. + Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies. **Attendance** + Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week. + Must be dependable and punctual. + Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule **Other Essential Functions** + If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required. + Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills. + Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives. + Government security clearance may be required in the future. + Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel.
