ABOUT THE TEAM:

The divisional Value Analysis Value Engineering (VAVE) team supports the development of innovative analytical instrumentation in multiple global business units in the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division (CMD). We provide value engineering expertise on new and existing products to deliver industry leading technology into a wide variety of markets. We assist teams in making decisions to achieve cost targets, deliver quality improvements, address supply chain risks, meet operation efficiency goals, and ensure sufficient operational capacity. We bridge the gap between the technical world of research and development and the productivity challenges of global manufacturing. Our team helps provide a manufacturing focus during development and an engineering focus during production.


ROLE PURPOSE SUMMARY: 
The Mechanical Engineer III - VAVE is a member of a global organization supporting R&D, operations, supply chain, and quality teams. You will work with teams, products, and technologies delivering industry leading instrumentation to customers. You will provide technical guidance on VAVE initiatives as you communicate with product teams and support engineering resources. You will use your engineering knowledge and experience to translate the technical needs of the product into manufacturing requirements that ensure product quality and performance. You will bring a positive mentality to find a better way and resolve problems to difficult but rewarding challenges that help customers make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer!


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Liaison between technology centric development teams and engineering support teams to ensure that technical requirements are understood and achieved.Responsible for developing technical solutions and engineering specifications while ensuring all drawings accurately reflect design intent and manufacturing requirements. Standardize mechanical design processes, optimize, and promote design for manufacturing (DFM) approaches. Conduct VAVE studies to identify cost reduction opportunities that maintain quality. Perform cost-benefit analyses and finalize annualized savings for each project.Leverage a world class supply chain to bring new manufacturing processes and knowledge to development teams. Continuously learn and grow technical knowledge across product lines.


EDUCATIONAL & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: 

Master's or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field or equivalent. 6 - 8 years experience in product designExperienced with cost out/VAVE methodologies Solid understanding of DFx principles (manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, safety, cost) applied to mechanical designs.Proficient in drawing standards such as ISO GPS and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), with experience in tolerance analysis.Strong experience working with complicated supply chains and partnering with suppliers.Skilled in using 3D CAD software tools for mechanical design, modeling, and detailing.Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication and collaboration globally and across functions.Experience in Project Management is helpful.
