We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Research & Development team based in Waldbronn Germany.
As an R&D Engineer, you will be part of a diverse R&D team responsible for developing future laboratory instrumentation within the Agilent Diagnostics and Genomics Group (DGG). This Group develops solutions that include reagents, instruments, software, and consumables, which enables customers in the clinical and life sciences research areas to interrogate samples at the cellular and molecular level. This position would be based out of Waldbronn Germany within the Biomolecular Analysis Division which develops best-in-class Automated Electrophoresis and Microfluidic laboratory instrumentation. These devices are used for the automated separation of bio-molecules such as proteins and nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) and is used to determine the identity of a molecule by either size or charge. You would be involved in and have technical responsibility for defining and developing novel products, components, processes, and systems using broad engineering concepts and research techniques. This role would also include testing design ideas in a laboratory environment along with solving complex and high-impact design and development problems. While also assisting in product definition/concept generation to meet design and business growth objectives. During this development you will also be able to work in close collaboration with colleagues – Electrical Engineers, Firmware Engineers, Software Engineers, Assay Scientists, and extended functions.

Responsibilities include:
Perform mechanical design for automated electrophoresis instrumentation during development through product release including creating drawings, BOMs, and working with suppliers on the design and purchase of parts.Follow the latest technology trends and propose new insights for further research and development.Actively participate in cross-functional project team meetings during product development (comprised of mechanical, electronics, firmware, software, applications, marketing, manufacturing, etc.).Solve and analyze technical issues in depth to understand core problems and provide sound solutions.Work with external engineering partners in mechanical design and development.Support manufacturing if needed for improvement projects after products are released.QualificationsUniversity degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.7+ years in hardware/product development, ideally in the field of laboratory devices.Experience in developing optics systems (i.e. optomechanical) and integrating optical components.Proficiency with 3D parametric CAD modeling software, preferably Siemens NX CAD.Experience in developing products from concept to market release within an R&D environment utilizing relevant industry standards (e.g. GD&T) to ensure quality products.Demonstrated experience in common manufacturing processes, manufacturing methods, and production-oriented design.Self-starter in conceptualizing and designing novel products, component designs, or concepts.Good English and German communication skills.What will make you stand Out:
