Mechanical Engineer (Praia, Cabo Verde)

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to provide comprehensive engineering services, quality assurance, and technical oversight for the Praia New Embassy Compound to include the chancery, consular access centers (CACs), a utility building, storage, mail screening facilities, public access areas, and official parking. As a Mechanical Engineer you will oversee the design and construction phases of the project, ensuring all mechanical systems meet the required standards of quality, safety, and performance. This is a four-year contract position based in Praia, Cabo Verde. Responsibilities: + Conduct technical inspections of mechanical systems, including Building Automation Systems, HVAC, plumbing, water/sewage treatment, power generation, and monitoring controls and disconnects to ensure compliance with project requirements. + Monitor the contractor’s quality control program, ensuring all work aligns with the contract and design documents. + Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and engineering shop drawings to verify compliance with final design parameters. + Perform quality assurance tasks, ensuring proper inspection of contractor’s work, addressing any corrective actions needed, and verifying that materials meet contract specifications. + Review contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements, resolve conflicts, and ensure that work is performed in accordance with design standards. + Oversee the construction contractor’s quality assurance and safety program, ensuring construction activities are carried out safely and effectively. + Observe onsite construction progress to ensure all elements are being installed and executed according to design specifications and project timelines. + Monitor construction progress relative to the project schedule and submit weekly reports with recommendations based on technical reviews and field inspections. + Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure coordination of construction work and identify any potential issues or non-compliance with design or contract specifications. + Ensure the proper execution of mechanical work across various systems and maintain a thorough understanding of design principles, ensuring integration with other disciplines involved in the project. + Prepare detailed construction reports outlining progress and identifying any issues related to mechanical systems and construction processes. + Evaluate contractor-proposed remedies for identified problems and develop solutions to present to the Project Director/Construction Manager. + Ensure that all site construction work adheres to U.S. standards, maintaining a current working knowledge of acceptable products, procedures, and regulations. + Review and assess design documents (drawings and specifications) prepared by the A/E, performing quality assurance for the mechanical components of the project to ensure compliance with project requirements + Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate. Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university in the United States, required + Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering, preferred + Minimum of seven (7) years of experience required on construction projects of similar scope and dollar + Previous experience with OBO projects, required + Must possess a Final Secret, Interim Top Secret (ITS), or Final Top Secret (TS) + Knowledge of Construction Safety regulations, i.e. EM 385-1-1, OSHA, etc. Why Planate?
