Your role and responsibilitiesThe ABB Measurement & Analytics plant in Quebec is a world leader in the field of spectroscopy. Our contract engineering service is the largest Canadian supplier of space optical sensors used, among other things, for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and for global weather forecasting. Our plant is also recognized for its expertise in the development and manufacturing of various products that meet several industrial analysis needs on a daily basis.By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Quebec, you will actively contribute to the activities of a dynamic and stimulating multidisciplinary team.As part of your duties, you will work as a mechanical engineer within the opto-mechanical team. You will be responsible for the mechanical aspects related to the design, manufacturing, and commission-ing of several product development projects.The sought-after engineer has a well-developed physical sense, is passionate about their field, enjoys working within a multidisciplinary team, stands out for their curiosity and thirst for learning, and has concrete achievements in new product design.•\tDesign instruments in compliance with requirements, costs, and deadlines.•\tChoose and optimize manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, bending, 3-D print-ing, and others).•\tVerify and seal plans while respecting geometric tolerancing standards.•\tRigorously document mechanical design, establish tolerancing budgets, and inspection plans.•\tSupervise assembly, commissioning, and establish prototype test plans.•\tParticipate in multidisciplinary design reviews and make presentations to clients at critical milestones.•\tActively participate in planning tasks and technical proposals (estimation).•\tOccasionally support production.
Qualifications for the roleBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with five to ten years of experience in developing complex systems, knowledge of optical systems is an asset. Knowledge of materials, mechanical manufacturing processes, heat treatments, and surface treatments. Knowledge of geometric tolerancing principles. Knowledge in structural and thermal finite element analysis (FEA) (asset). Experience in designing aerospace instruments and/or for harsh environments (asset). Knowledge of high-pressure equipment manufacturing standards (ASME) or explosive environments (ATEX) (asset). Member of the OIQ. Bilingualism (French/English) and skills in written and oral communication. French is required. English is necessary to communicate with clients outside Quebec on a regular basis.
