Mechanical Engineering Intern

THE ROLE

You will play a key role by assisting Engineers with multiple tasks involving the mechanical engineering functions in the Design or Research & Development teams. Through this position, you will help to develop component and system designs, determine failure trends, perform failure analysis, or support vehicle component and performance testing.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern your experience may include:

Prepare vehicle component layouts using CATIA, CREO, or other CAD software

Select components for quality conscious design  (weight, cost, reliability, ease of manufacturing, etc.)

Follow design projects on the assembly floor for prototype, pilot, or production build, and provide technical assistance

Generate engineering calculations for weight distribution, stress analysis, performance estimations, etc.

Consult with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to find solutions to issues

Perform or assist in the testing of vehicles or vehicle components

Develop and utilize mathematical reliability models

Analyze field warranty data and prototype test data for failure trends

If working in the Research & Development area, some responsibilities may include:

Establish requirements for testing of vehicles and associated components

Create test plans, recommend resources of equipment necessary to accomplish the test, and formulate test project estimates

Conceive necessary fixtures and test apparatus and supervise their construction and implementation

Coordinate, supervise, and monitor testing, including data collection and analysis

Recommend corrective actions needed to maintain schedule and cost targets

Communicate status and results of tests to internal departments, suppliers, and customers

MINIMUM QUALIFICAITONS

Student working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field

Willing to travel or relocate to Oshkosh, WI for the duration of the summer 2025 internship. Summer housing is available to interns whose permanent address is greater than 50 miles from their work location
