Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems, working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams. The position aims to foster learning, innovation, and collaboration while preparing interns for a successful career in engineering by exposing them to industry practices, tools, and challenges.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Design and Modeling: Assist in creating and updating 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software.Prototype Development: Support the design, assembly, and testing of prototypes to validate concepts and improve designs.Engineering Analysis: Perform calculations and simulations to evaluate the performance, strength, and efficiency of mechanical systems.Documentation: Prepare technical reports, manuals, and documentation to support project development and manufacturing processes.Testing and Validation: Assist in conducting tests, gathering data, and analyzing results to ensure systems meet design specifications.Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to support project objectives.Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot design or manufacturing issues, proposing solutions to improve product performance and reliability.Process Improvement: Participate in process optimization initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs Qualifications

Skills and Competencies

Experience in SolidWorks or other CAD software and understanding of engineering principles.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.Effective written and verbal communication for technical documentation and teamwork.Attention to detail, precision, and adherence to engineering standards.Time management, organizational skills, and adaptability to project requirements.Team collaboration and openness to learning and feedback.Passion for engineering and a drive for innovation

Education and/or Experience Requirements (Qualifications)

Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.Basic knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, concepts, and practices.Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other engineering tools.Prior internship, co-op experience, or relevant academic projects is a plus.Strong foundation in mathematics, physics, and material science.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
