Mechanical Engineering internship: hard ducting in designs
Introduction

The Machine Conditioning EUV Source group designs and delivers thermal, vacuum and fluid tin supply solutions for ASML’s extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light sources. By delivering these solutions on-time and on-specification, our group helps to ensure the power and throughput roadmaps for the EUV source business line.

Your Assignment

The aim of this assignment is to create a tool to help designers select when hard ducting can be used instead of flex hoses. Flex hoses are more expensive materials compared to hard ducting. We use flex hoses when hard ducting tolerances are not acceptable for our designs.

Some of your tasks may include:

Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for different sizes of hard ducting;

Design a test setup for stress testing for different sizes of hard ducting;

Compare results and adjust parameters (boundary conditions, material data, etc.) for complex shapes;

Compile knowledge in a tool which allows users to define their design conditions and which in return provides a suggestion of which type of tubing can be used.

This is a Bachelor or Master apprentice internship for 6 to 12 months, 2 to 5 days per week (depending on your preference). The start date of this internship is around September 2025.

Your profile

To be a fit for this assignment, you:

Are busy with your bachelor's or master's in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering;

Possess knowledge of Mechanical Design (NX experience preferred), FEA, Design of Experiment (optional);

Are proactive and have a hands-on mentality;

Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;

If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
