What you’ll do
Responsibilities may vary depending on the specific position assigned, but they may include:
Rotating and Fixed Equipment
Perform field visits to assist the area team with troubleshooting equipment.Support field investigations to develop and document technical scoping for repair, replacement, and/or modificationsAssist in Fitness-For-Service evaluations of equipment identified by the mechanical integrity program to ensure compliance with Cenovus engineering practices and ASME codes/standardsAssist in the development and creation of engineering work packages for routine maintenance activities (Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, Work Scope, Vendor Data) in accordance with Cenovus engineering practices and ASME codes/standardsHelp with updating plant rotating and fixed equipment technical drawings/documentsAssist with generating and/or updating plant material descriptions for critical spare partsHelp to gather and enter updated information into existing or newly created spreadsheets. Data may come from engineering files or verification of equipment located throughout the refineryContact machinery vendors for missing/required informationParticipate in field supervision of maintenance and project work conducted throughout the refineryUse predictive maintenance tools to be utilized to examine machinery to assess machinery condition and to determine the scope of work during machine overhaulAssist with creating SAP (ERP software) notifications, purchase requests, and cost accounting methodsOperations Project Management/Projects Engineering
Develop engineering troubleshooting skillsAssist project engineers with designs of less complex equipment such as piping, pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, etc.Provide data for engineering, procurement, and construction of capital projectsApply hands-on project managementMaintain and develop cost budgets and schedules for projectsOversee on-site construction and commissioning of engineering projectsAssist project engineers and other discipline engineers to ensure consistency in the execution of project management activitiesHelp create and scope out potential projects to improve outputHelp to coordinate site projects through execution, planning, and interface stages, ensuring that activities are completed on schedule and within budgetAssist the refinery operations to understand performance and production dataTurnaround
Conduct field investigations to develop and document technical scoping for repair, replacement, and/or modifications required for the turnaroundAssist engineering with Fitness-For-Service evaluations of equipment identified by the mechanical integrity program to ensure compliance with Cenovus engineering practices and ASME codes/standardsAssist and/or lead the development and creation of execution work packages for maintenance activities (Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, Work Scope, Vendor Data) in accordance with Cenovus engineering practices and ASME codes/standardsContact vendors for missing/required information, and verify the status of material pre-fabrication, and/or the status of material delivery, which may include visits to local fabrication shopsParticipation in contractor validation reviews, field walks, scheduled quality reviews, and optimization sessionsParticipate/support field supervision of turnaround work conducted leading up to, during, and post-shutdownSupport the identification of execution issues/concerns with turnaround leadership (safety, quality, cost, and schedule)Participate in safety meetings and auditsParticipate in lessons learned and provide recommendations for continuous improvementWho you are
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. full-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon request (e.g. passport, Social Security, etc.)Available to begin work on or around September 8th, 2025As this position requires the operation of a motor vehicle, a valid U.S. driver's license is requiredPrevious experience is considered an assetStrong attitude for carrying out all work in a safe, cautious manner while following safe work practicesStrong verbal and written communication skillsWe acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
Education
Must be enrolled in an Undergraduate Program studying Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related disciplines at an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full-time studies after the work term OR registered in an accredited post-secondary co-op or internship program for the duration of the work termCandidates currently enrolled in either a Masters or Ph.D. program at an accredited post-secondary institution may also be consideredNew graduates are not eligible for student opportunitiesWorking Conditions
May include frequency of travel, sitting, standing, computer work, lifting, driving, working at site, etc.
Safety Sensitive
