About the Role

 

Reporting to the Locomotive Overhaul Shop Supervisor in Port Hedland, this role suits an individual who is highly proactive, able to work autonomously with strong problem-solving skills and have an overriding commitment to safety.  This role will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, repairing and overhauling the SD70 Ace locomotives. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

 

Ensuring behaviour aligns with the BHP Charter Values, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations  An overriding commitment to health, safety and environment within Rail                                             Contributing to an inclusive and diverse culture  Adherence to Work Management principles and discipline  Contributing to Continuous Improvement in Rail Maintenance  Contribute to high fleet availability through routine maintenance, focused on quality work and a defect elimination mindset   Strong commitment to the Field Leadership  

 

Location / Roster


In this residential role you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia on a 4 days on, 4 nights on, 8 days off roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is a large regional centre in North West Australia. The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.


The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; an aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
 

About You

 

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following skills and experience:

 

Mechanical trade certificate Working knowledge of locomotive mechanical brake systems or rolling stock maintenance systems is Highly regarded  Interpret technical drawings Maintenance and fault finding experience   Excellent communication skills both verbal and written  1SAP and Fiori maintenance systems  Forklift, Dogging, Rigging, EWP High Risk Work Licence – desirable  C class drivers licence
