Summary You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Reference Standards Laboratory (Code 137.3), Mid-Atlantic Regional Calibration Center (Code 137), Quality Assurance Office (Code 130) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will serve as a test and measurement Mechanical Engineering Technician in the field of mechanical metrology. You will develop a system of evaluation, correction of errors, etc., utilizing equipment of the highest accuracy and the most precise design available to the Navy Calibration Program. You will assemble the test equipment setup, perform the test and record the data. You will prepare laboratory reports and any associated graphs and charts. You will perform mathematical computations necessary to produce test data. You will perform quality assurance evaluations of instruments. You will perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying knowledge of mechanical, physical and dimensional metrology concepts as well as practices and procedures for calibrating equipment in the areas of flow (liquid and gas), force, optics, pressure, vibration, fluid mechanics, linear measurements, acceleration, light, mass, acoustics and temperature. Experience with mechanical engineering processes and practices to solve technical problems involving the science of metrology and the use of calibration equipment, methods and standards. Experience with the Metrology and Calibration program, Department of Defense and/or commercial mechanical calibration programs and standards. Experience reconfiguring, constructing, testing and evaluating mechanical measurement systems. Experience with Statistical Process Control, the calculation of measurement uncertainty, and failure analysis. Experience communicating both orally and in writing to prepare technical reports, outlines, test procedures, interpretive evaluations and analyzing test data to document conclusions and make recommendations via formal letters to customers or other laboratories.
