Mechanical Facilities Engineer Intern
OVERVIEW Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school student who is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in thermal, fluid, and/or HVAC systems for a paid internship for Summer 2025 for our Los Alamos, NM office. The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2025. We will be accepting resumes for this opportunity from approximately September – November 2024. Resumes will be reviewed as they are received. Interviews will take place in the Fall/Winter. Offers will be extended in Winter/Spring. Timeframe subject to change. WHAT YOU'LL DO The summer internship will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of mechanical engineering with an emphasis on HVAC and plumbing/piping systems for facilities. The intern will be exposed to a variety of engineering experiences and tasks including, but not limited to, facility heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) analysis and design, plumbing and piping design, developing design calculations, creating fluid and thermal models, building process flow diagrams, equipment selection, stress analysis, writing specifications, and QA/QC process. The position requires the collaboration with other disciplines, ability to interface with clients and contractors, follow schedules and budget commitments, work independently, possess excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school Must be pursuing an engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of CREO.
