Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Position Summary
The position is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and both preventive and corrective maintenance of all mechanical equipment at the hydrogen production and liquefaction facility. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude and a comprehensive understanding of industrial chemical process facilities. The technician must be able to respond to urgent equipment needs to ensure the facility operates continuously and reliably. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills to work effectively across departments and contribute to improving the reliability and health of the mechanical systems. Familiarity with a wide range of mechanical systems, including compressors, pumps, and valves, is critical. Additionally, the Mechanical Tech will ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and general/preventive maintenance on critical mechanical systems, including electrolyzers, compressors, cryogenic turbo expanders, and process pumps.
Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, alignment checks, and filter replacements, to ensure equipment reliability and prevent unplanned downtime.
Provide rapid and efficient response to equipment malfunctions, performing corrective maintenance and component replacements (e.g., seals, bearings, gaskets) to minimize downtime.
Inspect and maintain both manual and automation valves, performing repairs or rebuilds to address issues such as leaks, corrosion, or lack of lubrication
Execute work orders, identify corrective maintenance activities & enter work orders and Planned Maintenance activities into the CMMS platform (Maximo, Emaint, SAP equivalent). Maintain accurate work records, and maintenance, ensuring comprehensive documentation for future reference.
Understands, follows, and maintains proper records for Process Safety Management procedures and requirements.
Support and comply within the bounds of a Non-Routine Work Permit.
Maintain organization of Maintenance Repair Area and material inventory.
Assist additional operation/maintenance related duties as needed.
Assist with general housekeeping around the plant.
Support on call rotation, to help troubleshoot and correct issues during off hours.
Personnel will travel occasionally (0-20%) to vendor/supplier shops or other Plug facilities to assist annual outage, or commissioning activities as needed.
Will represent Plug Power in a professional manner, at all times and in all interactions.
Education and Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, preferably in process plants, Oil & Gas or chemical, or a related industry.
An associate or vocational degree in mechanical maintenance.
Or in lieu of an associate or vocational degree, an additional two (2) years of experience in industrial mechanical maintenance.
Experience in hydrogen system or facilities (production or handling) is plus.
Preferred strong mechanical aptitude with experience in maintaining and troubleshooting compressors, pumps and other rotating equipment, valves, and cryogenic systems.
Knowledge of mechanical drawings, P&IDs, maintenance or OEM manuals.
Familiarity with safety and compliance standards or general practices related to mechanical systems.
Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision as part of a team in a fast-paced environment while achieving high work quality and results
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Self-starter, willing to find what needs to be done.
