Situated on the west bank of the Hudson River in West Haverstraw, NY, the Bowline Point Generation Station comprises two dual-fuel natural gas and oil-fired boilers, along with two GE steam turbine units, providing a combined capacity of 1169 megawatts. Opportunity Summary
The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for utilizing machine shop equipment and precision measurement tools to repair and maintain mechanical components. This role requires applying alignment methods, lifting, and rigging techniques, and metal fabrication skills to ensure equipment efficiency and safety. Additionally, the technician will use diagnostic tools, predictive maintenance techniques, and administrative skills to improve the plant's reliability and support overall operations.
Primary Functions
Utilize machine shop equipment and precision measurement tools for the repair and maintenance of mechanical components. Apply basic knowledge of alignment methods to ensure the proper functioning of machinery and equipment. Use lifting and rigging techniques for the safe handling and movement of heavy equipment and materials. Perform metal fabrication and forming tasks, including cutting, shaping, and assembling metal components. Apply gas and SMAW welding techniques for the repair and fabrication of metal structures and components. Conduct pipe fitting tasks, including threading and welding, to install and maintain piping systems. Perform basic boiler repair methods and techniques, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant's boilers. Use diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Utilize techniques like vibration analysis and oil testing to monitor equipment condition, predict failures, and schedule timely maintenance. Continuously improve the preventive maintenance program by updating PM procedures and schedules, focusing on equipment reliability and efficiency. Complete administrative tasks, including personal timekeeping, materials support, work order completion, incident reporting, cost monitoring, scheduling, and quality control/quality assurance documentation. Carry out all duties associated with the Plant Assistant role, contributing to the overall operation and maintenance of the station. The successful candidate will be a Probationary Employee for the first one hundred eighty calendar days. Working Relationships
The Mechanical Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor, works in cooperation with the Maintenance Manager and other plant personnel regarding matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant and responds to direction from the Plant Manager.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and others must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position follows a regular Monday-to-Friday schedule, with work hours from 7:00am to 3:30pm. The position may demand extended working hours and shifts that vary, including weekends and holidays, as dictated by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. Periodically, "on-call" status will be required as necessary.
Compensation
The initial compensation will start at $43.58 per hour with 1.5x OT and 2x DT.
Job Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent qualification, including trade school, military service, or technical training schools, is a prerequisite. Additional professional training is highly valued. Hands-on experience in power generating facility maintenance, preferably as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or equivalent. Experience in overhauling, repairing, and aligning pumps and motors, as well as performing maintenance on various types of valves. Expertise in assembling, disassembling, repairing, and adjusting both electrical and mechanical equipment. Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and a proven track record of performing routine maintenance duties while collecting essential data for analysis. Technical knowledge should include an understanding of power plant operations and proficiency in maintaining and repairing plant mechanical systems, including routine troubleshooting. The capability to read and understand precision measuring equipment for accurate assessments. Ability to respond to audio alarms and variations in sound effectively. Excellent oral and written communication skills, which are crucial for effective coordination and reporting. Must possess the ability to successfully complete the qualifications program for Maintenance Mechanic 1 upon hiring. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.About NAES
